"Hype was indispensable for us on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, especially for the wide angle shots where we needed to put CG squirrels on the edge of frame. We tried all our off-the-shelf tracking software but they just did not model the lens distortion accurately enough. With Hype we got a perfect track first time and every time."

Visual Appliance

Visual Appliance Limited, based in the UK and Australia, was formed in 2004 by Matthew Landauer and Philip Riddett as a platform to launch Hype.

Our philosophy at Visual Appliance is to make software that really works and is simple to use.

We strive to take a difficult problem, strip away the complexity and leave a simple solution.

Our software development process reflects this philosophy by heavily using modern agile methodologies.

Before forming Visual Appliance Matthew Landauer worked in research and development and software development at such visual effects facilities as The Computer Film Company (now Framestore-CFC), Manex Visual Effects, ESC Entertainment and Rising Sun Pictures. He has a PhD in Physics from the Cavendish Laboratory, Cambridge University, UK.

Philip Riddett is a founding director of Visual Appliance Limited and a member of the Institute of Directors. Since being awarded a Bsc from Southampton University in 1994 Philip spent seven years in visual arts production and publishing.
